He's clearly one of the most important characters too. Without him, Hikaru wouldn't have gone anywhere. Alas for the people who haven't yet realised this ^_~

Yes yes yes! He's the person who pushed Hikaru into trying for the insei program and not settling for just having fun in Go club. For all that Akira got him interested in Go for himself and Sai got him to play at all, if Kishimoto hadn't been there to convince him he needed to start running he'd never have caught Akira. You are definitely right! ^_^
