I've been scavenging through the archeologic zone that are Hikago communities in Livejournal and I found out that there was an AkiHika (I think?) fanfic series in where Hikaru was a serial killer and Akira the detective trying to catch him. I can't for the life of me find it, does anyone know if said fic still exists or was lost to time?🤔

Hikaru and Sai's relationship is so curious and so special because, Sai is older than Hikaru, and he's the one teaching him Go, so in a normal situation there would be a clear power dynamic between the two, but because Sai is incapable of interacting with the world without Hikaru's consent, the power imbalance is gone. Also, because of Sai's childish personality and lack of knowledge of the modern world, there are moments in which Hikaru becomes Sai's teacher and has to put up with his tantrums. It's like they take turns into becoming each other's bratty little brother. Also by the time Hikaru becomes an insei they act like twins sometimes, completely in-sync (so cute).

I think, at some point, Sai started to bleed into Hikaru. Like, he was a friend and a teacher, but Sai became a part of him. Sai was Go, and Go became Hikaru's life, so Sai became an intrinsic part of his own identity as a person. Sadly Hikaru didn't notice any of this until Sai was gone. That's also why it hurts so much, Hikaru quite literally lost a part of himself that day

I know the anime is not about that, but since Hikaru was literally possessed for years (and since I am, at heart, a horror fan), I think he should have been allowed to be a bit spooky, as a treat.

Imagine, Hikaru Shindou, that weirdo kid that appeared out of nowhere to become an insei and talk no sense about being Akira Touya's rival, whose skin is a bit too cold and whose eyes shine slightly in the dark, who has a shadow that is a bit too dark and too big, who looks into space and talks to himself a lot, who gets good at Go scarily fast and has a predatory look on his face every time he's sitting in front of a goban.

Who, even with all that is stil a normal kid, who is loud and annoying and happy, that makes you forget how creepy he can be sometimes

I started to watch Hikaru no Go with a friend recently (we are at chapter 52) because the Spanish dub just dropped and felt like a good time to do it. Since then I have been looking for community online, but it seems I am 20+ years late 😅. The tag in Tumblr is still semi-active and I found lovely Korean and Japanese art accounts on Twitter, but nothing big.

I logged into my old dreamwidth account in hopes to find something but the last post in this community is from 2021sooo, I am making this post in case someone is still alive in this ghost city 🥲

I'm trying to write a fic and it's been too long since I read the manga. So a couple of questions:

- How old is Hikaru at the end? 17 years old?

- How old was Sai when he died? I remember some people saying he was in his early twenties.

- Is there a resource for Go tournaments in Japan? Like when they are held and how players advance through the ranks. Besides Wikipedia that is.

A live action adaptation of Hikaru No Go with 36 episodes has started airing in China.

It's available with English subs at the iQIYI website.

Episodes 1-4 are free. Episodes 5-10 are locked to premium users (I think they unlock after a week or two), and the rest are yet to air.

I've watched the first episode and narratively it's quite faithful so far, though, you know - entirely set in China... and ep 1 is set on the day of the return of HK to China... ASIDE FROM THAT the plot is very similar.

I'm pretty sure that no one remembers this anymore, but back in 2013 (...seriously. it's been seven years?!) when we were playing let's five here, a certain zombie apocalypse question led to me writing short little fic about it... I found that fic now, got inspired, and decided to continue it. First chapter is posted both on AO3 and on ff.net.

How can I find all of those "five things about Hikaru"?
I know that there are a lot of them.
But in fact, such things are never enough.
I adore all of the oddities that people notice about Hikaru.
All of the attempts to understand what's happening.
It's really interesting when there is something supernatural that needs to be adjusted to common sense.
Honestly, the option to tell the truth seems absurd.
First, no one would have believed it.
Second, it wouldn't be interesting.
