Rare Pair Fest

Another event to keep the Hikago Month momentum!

HOW IT WORKS:

Post anything to do with a rare pairing: Fic, art, podfic, vids, screen caps, inappropriate captions, plot bunnies, your deepest wish for the secret rare pair of your heart, five things, poems, gifs, manifestos, random squee, models out of clay, WHATEVER!

Love on what everyone else has shared.

WHAT CLASSIFIES AS A RARE PAIRING:

So, my deepest hope is to inspire everyone to dig deep into their imagination and their pull out the pairings they've always wanted to write but never had the occasion or motivation to do so before, or to go crazy and create someone else's new favorite rare pair. The sky is the limit!

However, we also wanted to set down standards so that there was no confusion later. So, any pairing that has over 100 fics on AO3 is disqualified.

Which means that... Hikaru/Akira is the only pairing disqualified for this round.

I know, I know, but the second most used pairings in the fandom are Ko Yeong-ha/Yashiro and Isumi/Waya, tied at 44 fics each (to Hikaru/Akira's 399). Since no one else comes close, it's unfair to shut this fest out to otherwise under represented pairing, despite how we think of them. So, take this as inspiration to produce more content for your favorite ship and help grow their visibility on AO3!

Okay, well, everyone is the winner here because there will (hopefully) be tons of lovely things to read and look at and enjoy.

HOWEVER! To make it a little interesting, let's see which rare pairing is the most improved by June 1st.

The Fest can go on as long as people like, but we can have multiple rounds of awards after this if we're still going strong.

Feel free to take this opportunity to archive old fic to AO3, post your Hikago Day drabbles, and bully (nicely) others to do the same, as well as create new content. It's free range! Just link back to this post so we can find it!

Despite the number weirdness - the Isumi/Waya really is 44 works on Ao3 (out of 1218)

I went through looking my works, because I thought "I've done heaps for this pairing!", and then realised when looking through my Waya stories - that it was, a background ship, something that could be read as Isumi/Waya or something else -it was deliberately vague, threesomes, or podfic which personally I enjoy as somewhat shippy but didn't specify a ship for the original story. @___@;;;

I mean that's only 5 stories at most that I could add, but I didn't feel comfortable tagging with as such, so that's probably why people are like "but it's everywhere" when actually, if you get down to the individual story analysis - not really?

*Note, I er consider myself a mostly gen or ... admittedly a off the wall with pairings, kind of writer, and Isumi/Waya is my second most tagged Hikago pairing.

It's just it's uh, 4 pairings to my 9 Shindou Hikaru/Touya Akira pairings, and I ship Isumi/Waya more than I ship Shindou/Touya.

Well, so, this is actually a thing for me too. When I was setting up my Delicious tags (so long ago ;___;), I didn't want to do straight up pairing tags specifically because, in Hikago, I felt like even if something was technically gen, Hikaru and Akira were terribly in love with each other. But only as obvious as they were in the show.... if that makes any sense. ;p
