Planning Open Beta celebration

readerofasaph and ladyseishou suggested that we hold an open beta celebration, starting on April 30, to help launch this community off the ground. Here's a list of various ideas for community activities that were proposed by people in comments to my previous post:

Friending meme

Comment with a self-introduction and look for new friends in the fandom.

Mad Lib drabbles

Wikipedia article

Example:

During the game, (name of Hikago character) began to (verb) his stones while waiting for (name of another Hikago character) to respond to his (noun).

And possible answer set:

Kuwabara, eat, Waya, foot

So that the final story reads:

During the game, Kuwabara began to eat his stones while waiting for Waya to respond to his foot.

Volunteer(s) needed to (1) solicit short drabbles to be edited, removing key words, (2) post edited drabbles to the comm during the celebration, (3) collect hidden responses from members/visitors and (4) re-edit the drabble inserting new words and post the “new” story on the comm during the celebration.

Rec lists

Similar in concept as used by stargateficrec.

Volunteers claim a character or pairing and later provide fanfic or fanart recs which should include a brief description and a link to the work. People can also volunteer to rec fandom meta posts, Hikago-related icons, etc.

Trivia contest

Trivia questions (hard, easy and everything in between) about or related to Hikaru no Go to be posted throughout the Open Beta celebration. Commenters earn points for being first to post the correct answer.

We will need volunteers to help come up with trivia questions and possibly prizes (in the form of icons/fanfic/fanart?).

Comment!fics

Fanlore article

Comment with prompts and reply to those prompts with fics. A good chance to take advantage of the expanded character limit on comments.

Image prompt flash fics

Altered panels from the Hikaru no Go manga where the text has been removed to be replaced by suggestions provided by the members and visitors of the comm.

Volunteer(s) needed to (1) select and edit images, (2) upload images to an outside hosting site (DW does not yet host images), (3) post images to comm celebration activity, (4) edit images by adding suggested text from members and (5) post edited images to the comm throughout the celebration.

macey_muse also points out we_are_cities as a good example of an image prompt community.

Round robin fic

Fanlore article

Begin a story. People take turns continuing it by replying in the comments.

Picspam

Volunteers wanted to make weekly posts of Hikago-related picspam.

Write posts in support of your favorite pairing in the fandom.

Rewatch/reread

Community-wide project to reread the manga or rewatch the series, with volunteers to lead the weekly discussions.

Introductions to canon/fandom

Volunteers write posts introducing the series to newcomers, perhaps by sharing their own experience with the series or with the fandom.
