Well,

flonnebonne suggested posting WIPs in commemoration of Hikaru and Sai's unfinished game, but... *guilty* *so guilty* it's been such a long while since I wrote Hikago fic, I don't remember any WIPs? That I haven't posted, at least?

But here is a snippet of something I set out to write once. I may have posted it before, can't recall:

Happy Hikago day! IIRC, the below is one of the first Hikago fic I ever wrote (well, started writing). I don't imagine I'll come up with an interesting ending to ever, but reading through this a decade and half later, I personally think the idea is pretty cute.

Hi all! May 5 is almost upon us! It's a bit of a special year this year, with the Heisei era ending (even though the Heisei emperor is still alive!) and the new Reiwa era beginning. The past and future connect...it's all very Hikago!

In the spirit of Hikaru's unfinished game with Sai, I propose that we celebrate May 5 by posting our fanworks-in-progress: unfinished fanfics, half-coloured lineart, incomplete sets of cosplay, piles of knitting that look vaguely like Akira's face...let's post them all in the comm!

What do y'all think? Do you want a flood of half-baked Hikago ideas and half-baked Hikago cakes on your reading list on May 5? I'm sure you do! *cough cough*

In 1829, Kuwabara Torajirou (Hon'inbou Shuusaku) was born (according to the old lunar calendar that was in use during his lifetime)
In 1999, it was about this time that Akari caught Mitani drawing in the correct answer to the tsumego on the Haze go club's recruitment poster
In 2000, Hikaru had just been promoted to 16th in insei group 1, barely in time to participate in the Wakajishi tournament
In 2001, Sai disappeared and Hikaru began his quest to find him again

(Apologies that this post is going up late! Originally, I had planned to do a character manifesto but due to feeling poorly, I switched at last minute to something a lot less elaborate.)

How it works

The chooser thinks of a Hikago character and posts "Who am I?" in a comment to start the game. It can be any character that has a name and appears in the series, no matter how minor. The rest of us will try to guess who the character is by asking yes or no questions in reply to the comment. The first person to guess the character correctly by asking, "Are you [character name]?" wins the game. If no one manages to guess correctly before twenty questions are asked, then the chooser wins the game.

Whoever wins the game gets to start the next game!
