OK, since this community is apparently NOT dead (yay!) I was wondering if anyone has any fic recs--particularly NEW/(RELATIVELY) RECENT fics?

I read prolifically in the fandom circa roughly 2010-2013, exploring everything from AO3 and FF.Net to LJ and user-owned fic archives, so I'm already familiar with most of the classics. But since then, I haven't read as much. So I was wondering if anybody had fic they'd rec that has been written 2014-2018?

I greatly prefer Shindou/Touya, but I will happily read nearly any ship if it's good (or gen!) I like longfic over oneshots, but again--if it's good, I'll read it! WIPs are not entirely out of the question, though of course complete stories are preferred. NSFW is OK!

I generally don't like AU much-- I love canon divergence and "what if?" stuff, but settings/scenarios that are way different from the source material aren't really my speed. (However, if you have something truly excellent, like the most amazingly well-researched Heian period fic or a supremely in-character werewolf story, feel free to send it my way and I might check it out anyway.)

Feel free to rec your own fic! I love self-promotion!

Thanks in advance, everybody!

Touya's there to help Shindou out with his goal. After all, it wasn't only Shindou's life that Sai had touched. They wouldn't even be together if it wasn't for Sai.

Hello dear fandom!:) I guess this won't be news to those of you who are on tumblr, but I thought posting the links to some recent stories here wouldn't hurt either, especially since the collab love gives me an excuse to do so:)

Uno, made-of-coffee and I bring you the second story in Aces of Kaijou Hikaru no Go/Kuroko no Basuke crossover. She drew some awesome pictures for it, go and see them! And well, I wrote the text.

Title: Kise Meets a Fan
Fandom: Hikaru no Go/ Kuroko no Basuke (crossover)
Author/Artist: made-of-coffee (idea and fanart), meguri_aite (text)
Series: Aces of Kaijou
Characters/Pairings: Kise Ryouta, Touya Akira, Shindou Hikaru, Momoi Satsuki, Touya/Shindou
Rating: G
Word Count: 4168
Summary:

Kise is pretty sure that this is not exactly how meetings with fans are supposed to go.

“Hey Touya, are you sure he agreed to meet us?”

“Stop fidgeting, Shindou. Why would I lie to you about something like that?”

“Well, did you get the time and place right, then? Maybe we’re waiting in the wrong place. What exactly did you agree on?”

“Shindou. Don’t try my patience.”

“Touya, you don’t understaaaand - ”

Kise, who had been observing the exchange from close by for a few minutes, marveled at the abandon with which Touya and his friend could argue about someone who was literally just a few steps away from them.

You can read the story on AO3 and leave some love on made-of-coffee's blog as well!

Dos, there are a few more stories that I wrote since I last posted here. Links & summaries under the cut:)

Blind_Go is like a few days away *super excite*, and here I am with my 10k of fic. *shakes head*

Title: In a Manner of Speaking
Pairing(s): Akira/Hikaru
Summary: Two years that Shindou did not take Akira with him to Innoshima and the one year he did.
Rating: R, I guess
Word Count: 10k
Read via AO3

Also, something random I found out during the process of writing this story: did you guys know that Oteai games are no longer a thing in the real world? The whole system was dismantled in 2003 and now dan ranks are determined by mostly preliminary title matches. I am happy Oteai games are still part of the canon though because trying to incorporate the new system into fic would give me a headache probably.

Part 1: Sapiente

A Sai-focused prequel to Hikaru no Joe

Summary:

"Sapiente is growing desperate. Angelo believes him to be a figment of his broken mind and pays him as little attention as possible. Why was he given this second chance to complete his work, only to be bound to an engineer who has no interest in coffee, or him? Was this punishment for what he had done?"

------

Wow, this Sai-focused prequel sure took a long time and got way longer than I expected! It's a big change in tone and focus from the Hikaru no Joe AU series so far, but it does directly relate to the main story.

You can also read this as a stand-alone, as long as you're okay with Sai being the ghost of an 18th century Italian barista, but it works best read after at least chapter 3 of Hikaru no Joe. Just please be aware that this story isn't as fluffy as the Hikaru-focused main story and it touches on some serious themes. Please see this end note if you want further (somewhat spoiler-y) information about potential triggers.

When I set out to explore Sai's back-story and to create an original character, a quasi-Honinbo Shuusaku, for my barista AU, I had no idea that it would turn out to be longer than the main story. I hope it works for you! Part II will be posted next week.

Pairing: Sai/Angelo (original character)
Rating: Teen and Up
Genre: Coffeeshop AU
Word Count: 4,505
Warnings: See above

Hello there!:) This fanart+fanfic collaboration is what happened when made-of-coffee had a great idea to see Touya Akira go to Kaijou with Kise Ryouta of the sparkly KnB fame, and invited me to write about their shenanigans.

Title:
Kise Makes A Friend
Fandom: Hikaru no Go/ Kuroko no Basuke (crossover)
Author/Artist: made-of-coffee(idea and fanart), meguri_aite (text)
Series: Aces of Kaijou
Characters/Pairings: Touya Akira, Kise Ryouta
Rating: G
Word Count: 2,815
Summary:

Kaijou High has a few aces up its sleeve, Kise shares the spotlight with some prissy guy who actually wears Kaijou school uniform buttoned up, and Touya gets a fanclub.

When the Student Council president of Kaijou High suggested that the Newspaper Club do a special issue on the school’s star pupils, he didn’t know he was about to revolutionize the school’s popularity rankings and foster one beautiful friendship.

you can read it on AO3, DW or tumblr, and also leave some love at made-of-coffee's post:)

Hi there, best of fandoms!:) After so much time flailing over the awesome fanworks that have been created for Hikago, I decided to try my hand at contributing as well, so um, here it is.

Title:
Divine Intervention
Author/Artist: meguri_aite
Characters/Pairings: Shindou/Touya, and some long-suffering Waya
Rating: T
Word Count: 5720
Summary:

Some pros can't stop gossiping, certain deities won't stop meddling, and Shindou has a headache.

In fact, Shindou would have gone so far as to say that the day was going positively and quite literally insane, because he was hearing voices. Voices that seemed to belong inside the heads of the people around him. A person with a less resilient psyche, and admittedly, more conventional formative years would have run screaming and checked themselves in at the nearest clinic, but Shindou prided himself on being a mature adult wise in the ways of the world. So he was mostly just terribly annoyed and developing a headache.

Title:
Auspicious Bet
Author/Artist: meguri_aite
Characters/Pairings:  Shindou/Touya, and unfortunate double entendres
Rating: T
Word Count: 4234
Summary:

The first time it happens, Shindou’s hands tremble so badly that he wonders if he can do it at all.
