Before I ask, where is your icon from? I've never seen that fanart and clearly my life is not complete until I do! :D

Top 5 favorite scenes from canon and why!

I'm gonna have to fail you, because I've had that icon for years, and had the original art saved on my pc, three computers ago...the worst part is, is that I had gotten two other images from the artist's website, both were beautiful, and I have no idea what the artist's name is. All I remember is that the website was in Japanese and there were about 200+ pieces of art on her page.

1) When Akira comes by the go tournament after his tour of Kaio, comes up to Hikaru and tells him that he's jealous that he didn't get to play Hikaru. I love baby Akira, and in this scene, he's so sweet and so earnest. And, oh my gosh, he's wearing short pants with his suit. *hugs Touya forever*

2) Isumi's game with Hikaru. Well, actually two parts of that particular game, when Isumi begins cleaning off the board and you see the dust being wiped away to the shiny goban, and at the very end when Hikaru's tears land on the goban. When I read the manga and when I watched the anime, this was the scene that had me sobbing. For the entire duration. So beautiful.

3) After Kouyo's retirement, Kurata goes to see him, and speaks with Touya afterwards. This scene is like a chapter or two after Kurata has had a game of one color go with Shindo. Kurata tells Touya that he's only looking forward, not realizing that there was someone scary coming up behind him. Why do I love it? Because it's the first time you really see Kurata flat out say that Shindo is freaking scary, and it's so ominous. As the reader, you're happy that you know that Shindo and Touya are getting closer, but from Akira's perspective you're beginning to feel like the Jaws theme should be playing in the background.

4) Touya and Shindo's fight at the Touya go salon. When Shindo stomps out and Ichikawa holds out his bookbag without a word. I love how with one scene, we're told how close Shindo and Touya have become. Also, how often that sort of thing occurs. And Touya acting like a teenager fills me with joy.

5) When Ochi steps up to play against Yashiro even though he knows that he's outclassed. I hated that kid for the majority of the series, but that was the moment that I was like, "Okay, he's got some guts here. I kinda like him." And now, he's one of my favorite minor characters.

Oh you made some fantastic choices! A lot of those are favorites of mine too. In fact, I mentioned #3 as my favorite Kurata moment!

My favorite games? That is tough!

1 - Touya Meijin vs Fujiwara no Sai because it's pretty much the ultimate showdown in the Hikago world! I especially like how much it makes Hikaru grow as a player, that Sai gave him that experience and him seeing it was the reason Sai found Hikaru.

2 - Hikaru vs. Isumi, when Isumi makes Hikaru play him even though Hikaru has stopped playing Go. Just as you said, this entire match makes me cry every single time.

3 - Akira vs Hikaru at the Kaiou tournament. It's the first match they really play against each other at all and its a moment where they both grow a great deal. Akira is willing to face down an opponent who, for the first time, he is afraid of playing. Hikaru realizes that he can't be satisfied unless he is the one whose strength is being tested, that he can't sit back and let Sai play and that he has a great distance to go before he'll catch up.

4 - Hikaru vs Hon Suyong in the Korean Go Salon. It's the first time we see someone from outside the Japanese Go community and the first time Hikaru plays someone at his level in a serious, non-insei setting. It is also the first time we really see Hikaru's signature play style. Also, I love how they taunt each other through out and act like such stupid boys about the match.

5 - Even though we don't see much of the board, the first match Hikaru and Akira play against each other as Go Pros. The intensity of that, the satisfaction you can see coming off both of them is amazing. It's a great conclusion to their story, because we all know it's really just a beginning.

I had seen that you had chosen #3 as a personal fave of yours...after I'd posted this one. kekekeke. Great minds think alike. I'd have to agree on the Hikaru/Hon Suyong, I loved that one. Also, because it kinda sets him up to be, yet another, boy who will stalk Hikaru. hehehe. >.

Well clearly #3 must be an awesome Kurata moment if we both love it! hehe. I love how the entirety of the boys in Hikaru no Go are divided between stalking Hikaru and stalking Akira and both of them are entirely oblivious to it!

I love that they are only aware of the other's stalkers. Hahaha. It's like they know that those are the ones who are trying to get in on their action.
