This probably isn't obscure, but chat was making me curious how old Ogata is.

I know that Ogata's been a student of Touya Meijin's since before Akira was born (see Game 160) but I'm still looking for his age and debut :(

Right I remember Touya saying that! But yeah it doesn't help much since it just establishes him as older than Akira, which we could already figure out. XD He could've been Touya Meijin's student from a v young age, or he could have already been a bit older! I've always mentally placed him as early-to-mid-30s, but it's hard 2 tell.

He gets -sanned, -senseied and -kunned in the usual ways so that's not much help either. In the love thread I had a realization that Ogata really kind of stands alone in the series in terms of having contemporaries; of everyone, I'd say Serizawa is probably the closest--and actually that's an interesting person to use, because to me he looks to be about the same age or maybe a squinch older than Ogata, but -senseis him in his private thoughts. Yes, Ogata's quite successful and a titleholder, but that contributes to my headcanon of Ogata becoming a pro at a younger age (like Hikaru's cohort).

That was a bunch of words to say yeah, I dunno either, sounds about right :(

Yeah it seems like he would've also become a pro in his teens, agreed. So even though he pings me as "30s" it's conceivable he's in his 20s as well. Haha WELL IF U EVER FIND ANY MORE INFORMATION ON THIS TTLY LMK!

Yeah, the first link is basically our conversation. The second link has someone claiming he is officially 25, but isn't sure at what point of the series that age is meant to be for. However, what they DON'T say is how they know it's official. It's not in Ogata's Gorgeous profile :(

I wonder if it's something that was stated once in some obscure interview or something. :x OR IT COULD BE THEY'RE PULLING IT OUT OF THEIR ASS haha.

ETA: ON THE BRIGHT SIDE THIS QUESTION IS TURNING OUT TO BE WAY MORE OBSCURE THAN I THOUGHT IT'D BE?? XD XD (bright side for it fitting this post, lol, but not for satisfying my curiosity damn)

My bet would be interview then :( But until I have something sourced, I think I'll have to carry on thinking of him as a bit older; I got the impression there was more of a gap between him and Saeki/Ashiwara.

SOBBBBB this along with the length of Touya Kouyou's career are the two things that bother me most. Whyyyyyy can't I nail these things down???

LOL, yes. Ogata's age is something that periodically comes up - no one's ever figured out a definitive answer as far as I know.
