SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show) is a by fans for fans. We have a really strong focus on creativity with many cosplay and artist events, but we’re also working on including writers too. As such, we’d love to have as many writers as possible enter the competition.
SMASH! is running a fanfiction competition for those interested in taking a bit of creative license to canon (or possibly throwing it right out the window).
Entries will be judged by a panel of reputable fanfiction authors, chosen for their skills and knowledge of a broad range of fandoms.
To be in on the action, have a look at the fandom list (you’re sure to know at least one of them), and pick one of our prompts to use as broadly as you like to write your fanfic. Due to the short notice, we are also accepting previously written fanfiction provided they fit within our guidelines and prompts.
There are no restrictions on what pairings or scenes can be in the fanfics, but all fanfics must be rated G or PG. The word length of fics is recommended to be between 1000 to 2000 words, but this is a recommendation, not a hard limit.
Unfortunately prizes will only be awarded to entrants from Australia or New Zealand, but others are welcome to enter and receive feedback from our judges.
